Intensive Farming: what’s that

The geometric expansion of intensive farming has made me suspect a decisive role of the drugs used in large quantities in this type of farming.

Because of their characteristic of amassing numerous animals in confined spaces, requires continuous drug use to prevent diseases from developing.

Nature, in fact, when faced with a supernumerary of animals in a particular area, uses disease as a mechanism to reduce or eliminate overcrowding.

Therefore, with intensive farming there is a continue escalation between increasingly powerful drugs and increasingly dangerous and deadly diseases.
Unfortunately, some of these drugs evidently deposit toxic waste in the meat and bones of the animals raised for meat.

The evidence comes from the fact that, if the dog or cat eats the same type of meat, but not from animals coming from intensive farming, the diseases don’t appear. In practice, the chicken, turkey, pork, rabbit and beef bred in an “old-fashioned” way without the use of antibiotics or other drugs, don’t create problems, while the same meats derived from intensive farming clearly cause often impressive reactions.

Food Allergies and Intolerances

Food allergies and intolerances are continually increasing among humans and pets. Why?

 

While there is no clear scientific evidence, the cause seems to be strictly connected to the enormous increase of polluted substances (xenobiotics) present in the environment and food chain.

If we look to the polar bear as an example, we find an animal that lives in an environment far from immediate pollution, yet still has been contaminated and has suffered especially in their fertility.
This degree of contamination has been carried throughout the food chain: the bear eats fish and seals, which in turn feeds upon fish of a smaller size, which feed on algae or plankton.
Because the chemical substances that we pour into the rivers and seas don’t break down, we are assisting this phenomenon of progressive accumulation (bio accumulation) in the different species that live in the sea.

The reproductive difficulties of an animal that lives far from any negative stimulus should give pause. As a veterinarian of cats and dogs, I can say with certainty that the fertility in dogs has dramatically decreased in the last 30 years.

Even more impressive is the decrease in number of puppies in a litter, often reduced to half of the physiological number. As for sperm analysis, too many males are affected by reduction in quantity and vitality.

The introduction of the polluted substances (antibiotics, hormones, phyto-pharmacy, pesticides, fungicides, melamine, dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyls, nitrites, nitrates, etc.) happens also through the air and water, but the basic carrier is food.

Through the food chain they reach the residues in 200 million tons of synthetic chemical products, used specially in agriculture and in the intensive farming. If we consider that before the second world war, the world production of chemical products was around one million tons, we can have a clear explanation of the explosion of intolerance and allergies.

Those who lived their childhood after the war can confirm that in that period, food intolerances did not exist and allergies were enormously infrequent. Furthermore, the appearance of allergies happened exclusively in early childhood or adolescence.
Now, both intolerances and allergies appear for all ages, and it’s not uncommon to see a sudden appearance of such phenomenon in people of 70 or 80 years old and in dogs or cats of 10, 12, or more years old.

Every individual has a specific capacity for “absorbing” such poisons. Beyond this capacity appears allergies and intolerances.

There is a way to eliminate or at least limit these relentless problems;
Introduce the foods that prove to have a lower negative impact (fish, fish oil, extra virgin olive oil, linen oil, rice, and vegetables) and those with an antioxidant function (curry or agave syrup) that counteract the negative effect of pollutants.

Are Omega3 helpful?

Have you experienced joint, muscle, or tendon injuries, not from sports, but from a completely random situation?

Just follow any sport, and it has become normal to see athletes in their twenties suffering serious trauma like a herniated disc, or breakage of the Achilles tendon, meniscus, or crucial ligament. The same unfortunate incidents can occur similarly to our dogs.

The explanation is incredibly simple: a lack of the Omega3 fatty acids that maintain the elasticity of supporting tissues. Nutrition is often abound of Omega6 (too rich in cereals for example) which causes the exact opposite, stiffening the body structure.

Moral: to your cats and dogs, give them kibbles rich in Omega3.
The same goes for you; Add to your daily diet foods that yield greater amounts of Omega3 (for example: one gram of fish oil, hemp, or flax).

The Two Fundamental Causes of the Actual Diseases

Without a doubt, the average life of a human as well as domestic animals, has significantly improved in the space of a few decades.

We know that humans have already arrived to the average life of eighty years old, while a dog, where the average life was pretty short, until twenty years ago, between ten to thirteen years old depends on the breed and the size (large dogs never live as long as smaller breeds), now it comes easily to reach the minimum of 13/14 years and the maximum of twenty years.

This is basically tied to a way of life without hardship and lack of food and to the vaccinations, that they literally have panned the most serious infectious diseases. Moreover, the actual pesticides have an equivalent effectiveness and they are able to keep under control most part of the most fearsome parasites.

However, there are two new emergencies that threaten everything and for getting to the enviable actual average age just if we are able to dodge.

The first is the pollution.

The one that responsible for everything, like we can imagine, it’s always the human, completely unaware of his capacity of changing the natural cycles and the laws that always underlie life on the planet.
The biological balance on our planet has remained until the human didn’t start to force it to ensure the imperious world population increase the necessary food and to give to everyone an absolutely incompatible level of life with the environmental sustainability.

The use of fertilizer, pesticides, anti-cryptogamic, fungicides, antifungal, disinfectants, antiseptics, acids and all the chemical instruments that were invented to turn the environment to our necessities, it has polluted everything and transformed the biology on earth into a desert.
Humus, the substrate of microflora and micro fauna needed to keep the soil fertile has been destroyed, and the only way to produce in agriculture is to use the chemical fertilizer. There is no plant or animal that is not infested by increasingly indestructible parasites, and it’s enough to enter in an agricultural company or in a garden for being paralyzed from the impressive of the poisons in the market. In the pharmacies there is livestock product turnover for the intensive farming which is equally shocking. There is abused of antibiotics both in human and animals.
A very recent statistic performed in Germany showed that just the 20% of the diseases treated with antibiotics is due to germs where it’s useful to use them.
The recent examples of bacteria shackles to the antibiotics are just the vanguard of what can happen: the indiscriminate use of these drugs as important and decisive, it’s bringing to shackles of insensible germs, with the real risk of completely incontrollable epidemic.
In the pharmacies are available poisons for mosquitos, flies and wasps, we can find deodorants with classified substances as carcinogenic such as the aluminum perfumes.

In the water of aqueduct we can find everything, in those of the oligo mineral sources, the level of the admitted nitrate was casually increased, through a new law, ten times more than the limit that the research had set as a maximum tolerable for human. The heavy metals infest the planet. The paints that we have in the house are toxic. The electromagnetic pollution reveals its danger progressively.

The second emergency is the absolute shortage of Omega3 in the nutrition of both human and their little friends.

Why? The responsibility is to do something different, to increase the breeding productivity, human always interrupted the cycle of the grass, the only food for land animals rich in Omega3, substitute them with the silage corn, just rich in Omega6. Thereby it has completely imbalanced the natural balance and created further conditions and continue inflammatory processes. In fact, the Omega3 have an anti-inflammatory while Omega6 have exactly the opposite, creating the basis for ubiquitous chronic inflammation.
So, if the herbivores eat the grass, their milk, meat, cheese and egg will be rich in Omega3, if they eat corn they will be a bomb of Omega6. Anyway, the Omega6 is indispensable and useful, there are benefits just if it’s balance with Omega3.

Reportedly happens on human also on dogs and cats. Indeed, the foods being used in pet food are based on a cereal (rice, grain or corn, exclusively rich in Omega6), on flour of meat and animal fats is absolutely free of Omega3. As to say that the presence of chronic inflammatory processes is almost guaranteed.

Why Dogs Are Rarely Allergic to Fish

Allergies in dogs and cats are less common than people might think.

Various diseases are commonly attributed to allergic reactions to chicken, pork, beef, rabbit and others, but quite often the food intolerance is not to the protein but to the presence of antibiotic residues coming from an intensive farming system. The meats that small animals are most frequently hypersensitive to are beef and chicken, while fish is the least often.

Fish from the sea, even if it is bred, does not trigger these reactions. The reason seems to be that while other animals farmed for meat are taking antibiotics every day through medicated pet food, fish are not given antibiotics during their breeding cycle except for cases of acute disease. In fact, According to the CEE regulation no. 2377/90 the use of antibiotics in aquaculture is intended only for therapeutic purposes.
Histamine

Fish belonging to the Mackerel family are being poisoned due to high levels of histamine and a strictly correlated deterioration phenomenon. This includes common species like tuna, mackerel, sardine, anchovies etc. Such species are rich in free amino acid, a histidine which is transformed into histamine from the negative flora gram. When the conservation temperature is low, the formed histamine level remains low but not enough to cause intoxication symptoms, but when the temperature exceeds 15°C the level of histamine products exceed 100mg per 100gr and may cause symptoms. The actual legislation (DL.vo 531 of 30 December 1992) expects that 9 samples be withdrawn for which the average content cannot exceed 100mg/100gr, two samples can have values between 100 and 200 and nothing, but should exceed 200mg/100gr.

Antibiotics in aquaculture is expected to be used only for therapeutics, as advised by the law (CEE)n.2377/90.

In general, fish diseases have an extremely rapid diffusion that in some cases reach a mortality percentage up to 90%, like in the case of furunculosis Aeromonas salmonicida and the “red-mouth disease” Yersinia (2, 3, 4). Therefore in breeding, to encompass the economic losses, treatments are carried out at the first symptoms of disease.
